I was just going to respond to your questions here, but as I kept typing I realized it might just make more sense to give your response its own post so more people can see it :)

Firstly, Thanks so much for this website. You're very brave for exposing yourself and you have helped so many people by doing what you've done! My Bf and I were prescribed this treatment today and we're wondering if there are any permanent side effects in your case. His acne is a stronger case than mine and he's also had it for a longer lenght of time. Mine used to be a few blemishes starting 3 years ago turned into something more noticable and problematic since last year. We've read that permanent thin and sensitive skin could be one of the side effects of this medication. Have you personally experieced this or lengthy side effects after treatment? I read that you continued to use cetaphil and lip moisturizer after treatment and was wondering if this was the reason why. Also were there any food restrictions on this regimen? If so please share with us. Aside from animal greasy foods, chocolate, hi-cholesterol foods, etc. (the usual), she also said no "red" fruits/veggies/foods. Something about the thing in the food that causes the red pigmentation triggering allergic reactions that exacerbate skin problems that one already has. I'm wondering if perhaps you were told the same thing? The side effects were our major concern but your site has really helped us see the results so we are much encouraged to proceed with this regimen.

hey i had a few questions for you. When your cysts healed, did they leave a small white dot that looks like a white head? And if so, did they end up going away after your course on accutane? Everytime i have a cyst heal, a small white dot pops up and never seems to go away, I am just hoping that they will go away after accutane.

THANK YOU right back, for the kind words, and the reminder that this journey I took so long ago has been of help to those in need of information, and more importantly, proof, step-by-step, of the process as it unfolds.
All these years later, I am still acne-free, with extremely minor single spots every few weeks-- almost universally when I've been too lazy to shower before bed-- it's a killer to sleep and grind your face into a pillow with oil and dirt from daily life-- I kick myself when I do it, but honestly, it's great to know that I can eradicate any blemish just by washing my skin and maintaining a healthy, clean lifestyle-- you all have made this site worthwhile to me many times over-- it is exactly as I always hoped it would be-- a place to educate those who are looking for more than bland text and med-speak on the use of this treatment--
Best of luck!!!

I wanted to let you know that I just happened by this site in trying to research using Accutane. I never had acne until I turned 31. Now, two years later, my doc's trying to convince me to use it and I've been really hesitant. Trying to do all the research first. Had a hard time finding anything that documents with pics and/or images how well it can work. Thank you for this site. I know you originally set this up a few years ago, but you can know that there are still people like me who are looking at it and finding it very helpful. I'm actually getting excited to start treatment and get back to looking and feeling like myself again. Thanks.

I've spent the last 30 years with severe cystic acne. My mother, at 72, still has acne. So, instead of spending the rest of my life with acne, at age 50 I decided to give accutane a try.

Like most, I am going through most of the side effects. I am two months into the program.

I'm thrilled to have found your blog. Not only does it give me hope, but I think it is absolutely wonderful that you are giving kids and young adults such hope for a future without severe acne.

My thanks to you. Job well done!

Hi Mdlestat:

I wanted to congratulate you on the excellent and thorough work you did on this account of your Accutane experience. You're right--there's not much out there documenting in pictures week by week progress.

I just finished my sixth week of Accutane and I'm definitely in the thick of it. My cysts are much more angry and painful and I am broken out all over. It's tough to imagine that it will soon be all gone. I am taking 20mg/day--a very low dose because of my fear of the possible side effects. What dosage schedule were you on?

Also, can you share some more information about how you dealt with the acne when it kept getting worse before it got better? I have this horrible and (I know, I know) dangerous habit of picking at the pimples---especially those with a head. Oh, my apologies if I'm disgusting you with the details; but if you didn't pick at your face then how did you get through it?

Thanks again for your great contribution to those considering and using this powerful drug.

Take care,
Viola

Jessica

I am on my last month of Accutane so far so good!

I'm not really taking accutane and I haven't nor will I ever. My skin doesn't get pimples and such, but it's very oily and I have large pores.

But I'm very happy for you. I've always hated pharms because they're so greedy and so dependent on people being sick, but the fact that Accutane gave you back your life is great. I'm currently on a superdose of vitamin A right now (300,000 IU) to combat my oily skin. I'm only 3 weeks into it, but I hope that you will stay clear forever. I heard that this superdose of vitamin A was used to treat acne before Accutane (after all, Accutane is basically vitamin A and the side effects are the exact same as hypervitaminosis A). However natural vitamin A is 10x less toxic than synthetic vitamin A and vitamin D helps prevent vitamin A toxicity.

You seem like a genuine enough person to deserve staying clear for good.

Thanks for posting your pics, it really helps people to see it does start to look worse before it gets better. My 18 year old son just started the Accutane and his face is really bad and this is the first hope hes had since trying everything and nothing working for the past few years. Thanks again and your face looks terrific. I am 43 and still break out occasionally, it sucks, believe me I know.

Hey, I found your site and it's been such a help. I just went on accutane 2 weeks ago and I'm at the break out stage. It's gotten me down lately because I'm worst than when I started. What should I expect from here on out?
